TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Latest Poster Pays Homage to the Beloved 1990 Outing

The latest look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem takes inspiration from the TMNT movies of the past.

The latest poster for the animated reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, pays homage to one of the TMNT movies of old. And a much beloved one at that. Finding Leonardo and his brothers peeking out from the sewers beneath our feet, the poster recreates the same image from a poster for 1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, bringing it to life with the ground-breaking animation that is on display in Mutant Mayhem. Released in the before times of 1990, the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brought the heroes in a half shell into live action for the first time and tells the origin story of Splinter and his sons, the Turtles, as well as exploring their initial encounters with April O'Neil and Casey Jones, and their first confrontation with Shredder and the Foot Clan.

Directed by Steve Barron and starring Judith Hoag, Elias Koteas and the voices of Brian Tochi, Robbie Rist, Corey Feldman, and Josh Pais, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was met with mixed reviews upon release but has since grown in popularity thanks to its impressive, Jim Henson's Creature Shop costumes, depiction of the characters, and surprisingly dark tone.

As for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, the movie will reboot the franchise using stunning animation. Directed by Jeff Rowe from a screenplay he co-wrote with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem finds the brothers emerging from the sewers for the first time and setting out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers.

Based on the reactions to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, director Jeff Rowe and their team have nailed bringing the beloved heroes in a half shell back to the big screen. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem now stands at a ‘certified fresh’ rating of 94% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics consensus reading, “With its unique visual style and a story that captures the essence of the franchise's appeal, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is an animated treat for the whole family.”

MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman has heaped praise on the return of the Ninja Turtles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, applauding the animation, the casting, and the reboots sense of sheer cinematic fun.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has heart, a lot of humor, and spectacular action that builds like a tidal wave. The characters, especially Splinter, are likable and endearing. They resonate with individuality. Turtle fans across the board are going to love this film.”

Starring Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon as the titular turtles alongside an ensemble cast that includes Ayo Edebiri, Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Giancarlo Esposito, Seth Rogen, and Paul Rudd, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is out now in theaters.
