A NEW stadium in Las Vegas cost £1.9billion to build and is covered in hi-tech LED screens.

The MSG Sphere was turned on for the first time this week ahead of its official opening in September.

Connected to the Venetian resort via a pedestrian walkway, the venue will host music, film events and sport.

November's Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix will pass through the venue, with further plans to host boxing and mixed martial arts events in the future.

To celebrate July 4, the LED screens on the outside of the venue were turned on this week and have been projecting various displays.

The displays include a basketball with the branding for the NBA Summer League in order to promote the event.

Having started on Friday, the summer league will run until July 17 and is being played on the University of Nevada campus.

Fans have been left in awe of the 18,000 capacity venue, which cost £1.9billion to build.

One reacted by tweeting: "The MSG Sphere is officially the coolest building in the US."

Another also commented: "The MSG Sphere is insane because if I was driving by this I would crash."

The interior of the sphere has a 250-foot high wrap-around LED screen, haptic seats and machines that can create wind, temperature and scent effects.

Architecture firm Populous designed the stadium, having previously worked on venues for the Olympics and FIFA World Cup.

The MSG Sphere will officially open on September 29, with U2 playing a series of 25 concerts to mark the opening.
