Stamford's July 4th Fireworks Set For Friday; Traffic Advisory Issued

STAMFORD, CT — With Stamford's postponed July 4th fireworks display now set for Friday night, the city's police department has issued a traffic advisory for the Cummings Beach area to help attendees navigate the roads.

The fireworks display was originally scheduled for June 30, but poor air quality and visibility pushed it to July 7.

Entertainment for the event will begin at 6 p.m., and residents will be able to bring blankets and chairs to the beach, according to organizers. Food trucks will be on-site, and the fireworks are scheduled to begin shortly after 9 p.m.

Below is the traffic advisory from the Stamford Police Department:

2023 Fireworks Traffic Advisory

The annual Stamford fireworks display is set for Friday July 7, 2023. This is one of the largest annual Stamford events featuring heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic affecting all roads south of Route 1 from Canal St to Elm St/Cove Rd. It is recommended that spectators plan to arrive early as traffic delays are inevitable

Pedestrians attending the fireworks are reminded not to walk on the roads and to use sidewalks when going to and from Cummings and West Beach. It is recommended that pedestrians wear bright clothing and parents please always keep an eye on small children!

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR POST-FIREWORKS TRAFFICJust prior to the conclusion of the fireworks display two-way traffic will be suspended on Elm St, Cove Road and South on Magee Ave to the intersections of Shippan Ave. There will be two lanes of northbound traffic on these streets until the beach is cleared. Residents of this area will encounter delays in getting to their homes for approximately one hour or until traffic has cleared from the Cummings and West Beach area and should plan accordingly. Residents who are planning on picking up family members in the beach area should also plan for delays. Motorists are reminded there will be a significant amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the Cummings and West Beach area prior to and after the event and are asked to please exercise extreme caution while traveling through this area.
